The most common challenges in MURBs, when it comes to EV Charging Infrastructure

  1. Someone told you that this is too expensive, a long and complicated process. The process starts with the EV Ready plan, which will give answers about spare capacity and possible options for installing the EV Charging equipment.

  2. There are numerous opponents to EV Charging in your building. Electrified parking stalls are adding value to the property, especially in multi-unit residential buildings. An investment of $1,000 will add $8-10,000 to your property market value. EV-ready parking stall does not assume that you have to install an EV Charger. EV Ready means that EV Infrastructure is ready to install the charger - the junction box is within 5 meters from your parking stall.

  3. You have only one quote and this is way higher than your expected budget? We can take a look at your quote and provide competitive pricing.

  4. You are not sure is the EV Charging infrastructure is the right thing to do in your building. As an argument in favor of the installation of EV infrastructure, the data indicates that EV sales and registration of new EVs is on the rise. Therefore, at least 10-15% of the vehicles in your building need charging. An electrified parking stall is convenient, similar to the laundry in your apartment. Nowadays, this is something that improves the quality of life.

  5. You don’t know how to charge the owners for used electricity. Our solution is an automatic platform that is cloud-based and you have the digital wallet that you are using for EV Charging payment. Strata is setting up the rate by a common decision on an annual base. The price can be as low as BC Hydro's basic rate (12.5 cents/KWh) which will top up your battery for $2-3 (depending on battery size, level/speed of charging…)

  6. You don’t have an EV-ready plan and don’t know how to start. We are providing assessment and EV Ready plan for our customers.

  7. You have an EV-ready plan and you don’t know how to proceed. The next step is to design the EV infrastructure based on the BC Hydro-approved EV-ready plan. Our team of professional engineers will prepare the outline of the engineering plan and this will be included in our estimate.

  8. Strata council doesn’t want to move forward with the infrastructure. There are more solutions to this problem. The root of the problem is the fear of change, the inability to see 5 years ahead and resistance to anything new. The EV Standalone Rebate gives the opportunity to owners to apply for rebates ($2,000 per charger) for up to 7 EV Chargers each fiscal year. BC Government has the regulation that Strata cannot decline the owner’s intention to install the EV Charger on it’s own parking stall, as long as there are no justified technical issues.

  9. You are not sure if your building is capable to handle the EV-ready infrastructure. Our assessment and EV-ready plan will show you the capabilities of the building and we will propose the best solution for the building. In some cases, Stratas are opting in for electrifying visitor parking stalls, or designated stalls in the building, which serve as pay-per-use chargers.

  10. The process is too long and we don’t know how much it will cost. The duration of the process depends on Strata's efficiency in the decision-making process. We can provide an estimate of the costs and quote for the work, depending on the actual needs of the building.
